When I was 12, I was diagnosed with Leukemia, which required 2 years of chemotherapy.  A few complications with medication restricted my walking greatly, and I was on crutches for over 12 months waiting for my immune system to strengthen so I could undergo surgery. But, because, I couldn’t ride our ponies, I didn’t want anything to do with them. It was too hard for me to only be half involved in something that my entire childhood had revolved around. It was on my doorstep, literally. I didn’t know how to not be involved, and I made the decision to sell my pony, Lady.
