At 70, this father of four and grandfather of twelve is still married to his college sweetheart and still preaching away. When his congregation votes to give him a raise, he defers it back to investment in the church. It is now 2018 and one thing that has changed for the better is the country’s attitude and acceptance of its veterans. After the war, David often told people that veterans of Vietnam were different than those from other wars. They felt like they could not even recognize Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day because how could you participate in holidays that celebrated you when you had spent years trying to suppress and conceal that very same service? As Bob Dylan once said of thatera, “the times, they are- a changing”.
